yoga for beginners
Okay, confession time…I don’t like yoga. I know, I know. It’s almost sacrilege in the natural health world to say you don’t like yoga. So imagine my surprise when I recently tried Yoga for Healing by Tera Bucasas…and I loved it!
Here’s the thing, it’s likely that I’m not zen enough. I’ve tried yoga classes all over the world and I’ve done tons of yoga videos at home, but I’ve never enjoyed it. Here’s what goes through my head while I’m in a yoga class:
“Did she just say namaste? For real?”
“Comfortably hold this position? Is anyone here actually finding this comfortable?”
“Am I trendy enough to be here? Look at all these cool yoga people.”
Practicing yoga with videos at home isn’t much better; my internal voice is usually saying something. See what I mean? Not zen enough.

That was the standout for me with Tera’s program. There’s none of the fake serenity, there aren’t impossible poses that supposedly anyone can do, and I didn’t worry that my wardrobe and yoga “accessories” weren’t trendy enough. Tera is a Registered Yoga Teacher through the Yoga Alliance and has completed her 200hr Yoga Teacher Training through Corepower Yoga, with over 100 additional training hours. Importantly, she has also struggled with chronic illness.
It was her experience going from a very fit, energetic yoga instructor to someone dealing with extreme fatigue, deep depression, and physical pain that inspired the Yoga for Healing program. Tera took her training and crafted a gentle yoga practice for those who are walking the path back to wellness — people like me and maybe like you. People who need an authentic, achievable, no-frills way to work toward daily fitness, as well as access some of the deeper aspects of healing.
Tera is showing the community how to slow things down and move the body in a way that is aligned with its current state. Her program includes seven unique workout videos, a 25-page workbook, posture lists and modification videos for all seven workouts, focus sheets for both the physical and deeper aspects, and a yoga journal. I want to tell you exactly why I love this program so much with a simple list.
